Engineers from NASA's Near Space Network and the Electronics 3D Printing group at Goddard Space Flight Center developed and tested a 3D printed antenna using Fortifys technology. This project demonstrated cost-effective design and manufacturing of efficient antennas that meet industry standards. The antenna was tested with relay satellites and launched on a weather balloon from NASAs Columbia Scientific Facility in Palestine, Texas. Achieved in just three months, this development marks a significant advancement in producing low-cost communication equipment for future space missions.

Vodafone has launched a new innovation center in Mlaga, Spain, aimed at integrating satellite and terrestrial mobile communications. Financed partly by the Spanish Space Agency, the center includes AST SpaceMobile and the University of Mlaga as key partners. It will focus on designing, testing, and validating open-source hardware, software, and chips for use in both space and terrestrial networks. The center also features a space-to-land gateway to test services using AST SpaceMobiles BlueBird LEO satellites, which were launched last year to allow smartphones to access satellite connectivity.

The UK Space Agency has allocated 16 million from its Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) program to two projects, part of a 160 million effort to advance UK leadership in the satellite communications sector over the next four years. This initiative will enhance satellite constellations that provide high-speed internet to remote and underserved areas, with potential impacts on maritime and aviation communications. Oxfordshire's EnSilica plc has received 10 million to develop silicon chips and software for user terminals compatible with constellations like OneWeb Next Generation. Meanwhile, Cardiff's Excelerate Technology Ltd has been awarded 6 million to develop a user terminal enabling operator and orbit selection via an app, reducing costs and improving configurability.

Panasonic is supporting ETH Zurich students in developing a robot, known as SpaceHopper, designed for asteroid exploration. The primary challenge the team faces is the low-gravity conditions on asteroids, which complicates robot mobility. To address this, ETH Zurich's team is designing the robot with three legs to enable controlled leaps, which they believe will be the most effective mode of travel in such environments.
